New Data sheds light on genesis of our body s powerhouses

Nowakowski and Alexey Amunts Scientists uncover for the first time how the body s energy makers are made using Cryo-Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) at eBIC within Diamond which is based in Oxfordshire. A new paper published in Science today (19 February 2021) by an international team of researchers reports an insight into the molecular mechanism of membrane-tethered protein synthesis in mitochondria. This is a fundamental new understanding of how the human mitoribosome functions and could explain how it is affected by mutations and deregulation that lead to disorders such as deafness and diseases including cancer development.

Harwell campus near Didcot to double space for life sciences

A SCIENCE campus is expanding and doubling its site to accommodate strong demand from life sciences organisations wanting to move in. Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, near Didcot, is forging ahead with its five million sq. ft masterplan to consolidate the site as one of the fastest growing science and technology centres in the UK. A 48,000 sq. ft, research and engineering building called Zeus is the latest to be completed and, together with several onsite refurbishments, takes available space on the South Oxfordshire campus to 105,000 sq. ft. Zeus broke ground in January 2020 and houses light engineering, laboratory and assembly areas along with clean rooms and offices.

New variant proving very difficult to suppress as Covid infections remain high

Don t show me this message again✕ Coronavirus infections appear to be levelling off across the UK, the latest figures show – sparking concern that the new variant first detected in southeast England is “proving very difficult to suppress”. An estimated one in 55 people in England had Covid-19 between 17 and 23 January, according to a new infection survey published by the Office for National Statistics. This is broadly unchanged from the previous estimates for 10 to 16 January. This suggests more than one million people had coronavirus last week. The ONS said the percentage of people testing positive for coronavirus in England “remains high”, with the greatest rates continuing to be seen in London, where one in 35 people were infected in the seven days up to 23 January.

GBP/AUD Exchange Rate Volatile as Coronavirus Pandemic Dictates Movement

At the time of writing the pairing is trading at AU$1.7874. Pound Struggles for Direction Despite Fourth Vaccine Approval Hopes The Pound found itself struggling today as despite hopes for a fourth vaccine approval in the UK, the currency couldn’t shake the current coronavirus situation. Infections and deaths remain high across the UK even with the country being in a third national lockdown. The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has left investors jittery about the state of the UK economy, with early March now the proposed date to begin coming out of lockdown doing little to calm nerves.
