Cybersecurity Students Secure Spot in National Competition

Titans Among 15 Collegiate Teams From Across the Globe Dec. 18, 2020 Share This: With the suspected Russian hacking attack uncovered this week and posing a threat to the U.S. government and thousands of businesses, Cal State Fullerton is on the forefront of preparing students for careers as cybersecurity professionals to prevent such critical security vulnerabilities to computer systems, networks and programs. One of the ways CSUF is leading this charge is through students participating in collegiate competitions that focus on fictional cyberattack scenarios and how to improve the security of an organization. After spending nine hours attempting to hack into a fictional water and power plant, a team of Titan cybersecurity students successfully cyberattacked the system to qualify for a spot in January’s National Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition.

Outer space just got a little brighter

But that is what a band of astronomers has discovered, using cameras on the New Horizons spacecraft that once visited Pluto to measure the darkness of interplanetary space. “There’s something out there unknown,” said Tod Lauer, of the National Optical-Infrared Astronomy Research Laboratory in Tucson, Arizona. “The universe is not completely dark, and we don’t yet completely know what it comprises.”

Old King Coal

Steam reigned supreme back in those days and so it’s easy to see why it’s an appealing setting for a model railroad. As time goes on, it seems to me people’s modeling interests are creeping forward in time. That makes sense, of course, since we all tend to model subjects and eras that are familiar to us, especially things we saw as a kid. But even as more people model the modern diesel era, there is still room for something from classic steam days on our layouts.
