Worker at Rochester Middle School Construction Site Rescued

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester firefighters were called into action this morning following an accident at the construction site where the new Middle School is being built in northwest Rochester.
A news release on the incident says a construction worker fell 15-20 feet into a sloped trench shortly after 10 AM. The responding firefighters were able to safely remove the injured worker within 10 minutes of their arrival at the site in the 5500 block of 65th Street Northwest.
The construction worker, who was not identified, was transported by ambulance to the hospital for medical treatment. Information about the severity of the worker s injuries is not available.

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School Board has decided to speed up the implementation of a change in school start times designed to address the sleep needs of older students.
On a unanimous vote last night, the board approved a resolution to make the change at the beginning of the next school year rather than wait for the fall of 2022. School Board member Karen MacLaughlin brought forward the proposal and noted the original staff recommendation called for the later start times to begin with the 2021 school year and that was changed last November without an opportunity for additional public input. She also pointed to the later start time currently used for distance learning at the middle and high school levels as one of the few silver linings of the pandemic.

The Rochester School Board reviewed on Tuesday the results of a community survey that asked participants to identify factors they would value in the process of redrawing the district s boundaries.
The school district is in the process of redrawing its boundaries since it s adding a new elementary school and a new middle school, both of which are under construction. The district is also rebuilding two of its existing elementary schools.

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It s official, the post-pandemic world will not include snow days, at least for students in the Rochester School District.
The move has been under discussion for some time and today the Rochester Public Schools issued new procedures for inclement weather situations. A notice posted on the Rochester School District website says, because of the significant investments in technology devices, connectivity, and professional development to deliver distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, there will no longer be a need to cancel school in the event of snowstorms or other inclement weather.
