Monroe County flu season almost nonexistent so far
She’s never seen one like 2020-21’s, which so far has been practically nonexistent.
“We have had mild seasons, but this is very, very, very unusual, what we’re experiencing right now,” said the infectious diseases specialist, in practice for three decades.
In late September, Monroe County health officials expressed concern about the 2020-21 flu season and the coronavirus pandemic colliding and the stress it could put on local health care systems.
Since last March, the county has recorded nearly 46,000 cases of COVID-19, which has caused an enormous strain.
But between Oct. 3 and Jan. 16, the county confirmed only 32 cases of influenza, according to figures from the New York State Department of Health.
