The Rhode Island Department of Health on Tuesday reported three coronavirus-related deaths and 260 additional cases of COVID-19.  Of the 260 additional cases, 181 were people who tested positive for the first time on Monday, and 79 were people who tested positive for the first time on previous days.  That brings the total toll in Rhode Island to 2,681 deaths and 148,929 known cases.  The Health Department reported another 4,648 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered; 398,281 people (36.3% of the state s population) are fully vaccinated and 555,482 people (50.6% of the population) are at least partially vaccinated.

The state said 181 new cases were identified for the first time Monday and that the rest were added to previous days totals. Monday s positivity rate was 2.4%. The three weekly trackers percent positive, new hospital admissions, and new cases per 100,000 were all down from the previous week. According to Department of Health data, 129 people were in the hospital with COVID-19, with 26 people in the ICU and 16 on ventilators. The state said 555,482 first doses of vaccine have been administered, with 398,281 people fully vaccinated.

That brings the total toll in Rhode Island to 2,678 deaths and 148,669 known cases.  The Health Department reported another 19,339 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered; 395,714 people (36.1% of the state s population) are fully vaccinated and 553,131 people (50.4% of the population) are at least partially vaccinated.  There were 124 COVID-positive patients in Rhode Island hospitals at last count, on Saturday, down from 143 reported three days ago. Twenty-two were in intensive care; 19 were on ventilators.  In addition to the 483 additional cases, the Health Department reported 27,203 negative tests, for a 1.7% positive rate. If only those testing negative for the first time are counted, the positive rate was 13.6%.  Rhode Island has reported an average of 244 new coronavirus cases a day over the last seven days (22.2 cases per 100,000 people per day), down from 285 cases a day a week ago and 393 cases a day a month ago.

The state also said it has performed more than 4 million coronavirus tests since the beginning of the pandemic. The department said 264 new cases were identified Wednesday, with the rest added to previous days totals. The state has recorded a total of 147,897 cases and 2,669 deaths. Wednesday s positivity rate was 1.4%. Dr. Philip Chan of the Department of Health said at the weekly briefing that it is lowest percent-positive rate since the week of Oct. 11.
