Cinderella movie with Brandy is going to stream on Disney+. Yes, that s right: The 1997 live-action musical starring the pop star as the rags-to-riches princess with Whitney Houston as her fairy godmother is coming to your queue. Cinderella was the first time a person of color had played the classic character (in previous televised iterations of the musical, the character was played by Julie Andrews and Miss Scarlet herself, Lesley Ann Warren), but that was by no means the beginning and end of its groundbreaking representation. The film featured Filipino-American singer and universally acknowledged hottest Disney prince Paolo Montalbán, as well as Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, and Natalie Desselle-Reid (who sadly passed away in December 2020).

In addition to Brandy as Cinderella, the 1997 fan-favorite stars Whitney Houston as Cinderella s fairy godmother. The cast also includes Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Garber, Natalie Desselle Reid, Bernadette Peters, Paolo Montalban, Jason Alexander and Veanne Cox. It premiered on ABC to an audience of 60 million as part of the Wonderful World of Disney anthology and went on to earn 7 Emmy nominations.

Over the years, fans of singer and actor Brandy have learned to “never say never” or believe that something’s “impossible” and their patience and perseverance has been rewarded. “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” the 1997 TV movie that stars Brandy and Whitney Houston, is officially coming to Disney Plus.
Disney announced Thursday that the beloved musical movie will launch on the streaming service “at the stroke of midnight” on Feb. 12.

The movie’s streaming debut has been long-awaited by fans, and Brandy herself, who urged the streamer to pick up the rights to the project last summer, while promoting her latest album, B7. “Disney can come on up and scoop up Cinderella. That would be awesome,” she said. Well, consider your wish granted.

“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” will begin streaming at the notorious stroke of midnight Feb. 12, the streaming service announced Thursday. The show, which originally ran during “The Wonderful World of Disney” on ABC and features Brandy as Cinderella, also stars the late Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother.
