Prospective buyer of Waterville church complex seeks zone change to turn it into events center
The Waterville Planning Board on Monday will consider recommending to the City Council that the Sacred Heart Catholic Church property be rezoned so that it may be turned into an events center.

WATERVILLE The former Sacred Heart Catholic Church complex on Pleasant Street could be transformed into an events center catering to weddings and other gatherings if the city approves a zoning change that would allow for such a business there.

St. Joseph Parish in Farmington and St. Rose of Lima Parish in Jay have been named recipients of Matthew 25 Awards, which include grants ranging from $3,000 to $5,000.
The awards, presented by Catholic Charities Maine’s Parish Social Ministry program, are given to parishes to assist them in expanding their capacity to serve more people or to develop a new social ministry. The ministries receiving the awards must be directly serving vulnerable people in need, regardless of faith affiliation, and adhering to the principles of the Bible verse Matthew 25 (“I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink …”).

LEWISTON In commemoration of the month of May, the Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Parish plans to host a special Mass at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, 122 Ash St.
The parish includes councils from Lewiston, Sabattus, Lisbon and Auburn.
“We will celebrate many different days, including Mother’s Day and the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord,” said Normand Bisson of Council #12652 (Lewiston), who also serves as membership director for the Maine State Council of the Knights of Columbus, according to a news release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
