The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra in Brunswick will host its Winter Online Auction and an online chat with Conductor and Music Director Rohan Smith, both during the second week of March.

The orchestra’s Winter Online Auction is a fundraising event that will help offset the loss of this season’s ticket revenue, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the orchestra to cancel its 2020-21 season. The preview starts Saturday, March 6, at midcoastsymphony.org and bidding is open Friday through Sunday, March 12-14. At a fruit and vegetable market in Melbourne s southeast, a pony-tailed man brazenly strolled through the stalls wearing an armband featuring the unmistakable hate symbol of Nazi Germany – the swastika.
The man, whose image has been shared with Victoria Police, has not been tracked down.
There is a temptation to assume the Hitler-sympathiser is a fringe-dweller out to make a scene and little else. He most likely is.
The MSO has cancelled concerts through May because of Covid-19, but will offer online events.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra will not be performing concerts through May in Topsham and Lewiston. Instead MSO will offer a variety of free online events. The orchestra will continue its series of Facebook Live chats with conductor and music director Rohan Smith and some of MSO’s favorite guest artists.
“Gabbing with George about George” will be presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. Smith and pianist George Lopez will talk about George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” that Lopez performed with MSO in 2009. They will explore the roots of the piece as well as how various artists, including Lopez, have interpreted it.
The 37-year-old last played for the Gold Coast Titans and has represented Queensland and Australia.

Egan previously signed with the Gympie Devils.
He is an up and comer in league having played with the Melbourne Storm’s under 20s side and the Sunshine Coast Falcons representative teams. New Noosa signing Jake Egan comes to the club with experience in the Sunshine Coast Falcons set up.
