RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Sunday sealed site offices of four allegedly illegal housing societies along with four unauthorised commercial plazas and 24 shops. RDA staff visited different sites of the city and found unauthorised structures in different places. They sealed four illegal plazas and 24 shops in University Town. A first information report (FIR) was registered against University Town, the site office of Al-Makkah City was sealed and a demolition order was issued against four illegal housing schemes namely Gulshan-i-Bahar, Mian Mohammad Bukhsh Town, University Town and Mivida (Khanyal Homes) in Rawalpindi. An official of RDA said grand operations against illegal housing schemes and unauthorised constructions are underway in full swing to control illegal development of housing projects. Dawn/File RAWALPINDI: After a fire incident in the office of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) on Friday, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has, as a precautionary measure, handed over the security of the land acquisition data of Ring Road Project to the police. The offices of the RDA land acquisition branch and Wasa are located in different blocks but on the same premises. The fire erupted in a room in the Wasa office before Iftar on Friday but Rescue 1122 put out the flames within a few minutes. Soon after the incident, Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood requested RDA Director General Abdul Sattar Issani to form an inquiry committee.

The staff of Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing and Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorates of RDA carried out strict action against illegal residential cum commercial buildings, sealed four illegal plazas and 24 shops in University Town while an FIR was also lodged against University Town, RDA spokesman said in a press statement.

RDA spokesperson in a statement said that Government of the Punjab had released a fund of Rs40 million for Qadeer Khan Road dualisation project while the remaining Rs86 million were to be released after June 2021. However, due to the rigorous efforts of RDA Director General Captain (r) Abdul Sattar Issani, Government of the Punjab has released Rs86 million in March 2021.

The Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing’s staff including In-charge Demolition Squad Asif Bashir Tarar and building inspectors and others have taken strict action against illegal residential cum commercial buildings, sealed 10 illegal plazas, 22 illegal shops and 8 houses in different areas of Rawalpindi. The Director LU&BC Jamshaid Aftab said 40 notices and 10 challans have been issued to the owners of illegally constructed buildings.
