ACTIVIST Anna Hazare, who has shot off several letters to the central government since the farmers’ protests started near Delhi borders, has reiterated his plan to start an agitation in the capital in January. In a statement issued to the press, Hazare said the problems faced by farmers will not end until they get a justified price for their produce.
“Farmers are forced to commit suicides because they don’t even get the invested money back through farming… Since the Union government has accepted the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, it should accept the estimates sent by the state commissions and decide the Minimum Support Price by adding 50 per cent to the production cost, instead of cutting it down badly. If this is done, then farmers will get a fair price and won’t be compelled to end their lives,” wrote Hazare.
‘Farmers’ delegation’ meets Hazare, urges him to join protest in Delhi
Farmers delegation said that Hazare joining the agitation will strengthen the movement, which has reached a deadlock. December 20, 2020 11:05:36 pm
Hazare, 83, told the delegation that he was in total support of the farmers and has held two agitations over farm issues in the last few years.
A GROUP of 11 individuals claiming to be from the ongoing farmers’ protests visited activist Anna Hazare at his village in Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar district on Saturday and demanded that he join the farmers’ protest at one of the several venues near the national capital. They said that Hazare joining the agitation will strengthen the movement, which has reached a deadlock.

Hubli, Dec 20: Even as the Karnataka Congress is strongly opposing the proposed Bill to ban cow slaughter across the state, senior Congress leader, C.M. Ibrahim on Saturday welcomed the ruling BJP’s decision to ban cow slaughter in the state.
Ibrahim’s statement has come at a time when Leader of Oppostion Siddaramaiah has launched a series of attacks on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government over its decision to implement cow slaughter ban in the state.
Speaking to reporters here, Ibrahim appealed to Muslims to shun eating beef and strongly demanded that the ruling BJP must set up ‘Goushalas’ (cow shelters) at panchayat level instead of its proposed plan to set up at taluka level.

One of the more ironical images during last week’s Bharat Bandh called by farmers groups was that of social activist Anna Hazare on a day long hunger fast in support of the farmers demands. Accompanied by just a handful of supporters, a recorded message of Anna from his village of Ralegan Siddhi was sent out to tv channels. Most channels ignored it, a far cry from the time when multi-cam teams were chasing the then septuagenarian Gandhi topi leader with breathless excitement, with newspaper columns even comparing him to a modern day Mahatma. The ‘Anna moment’ in Indian politics has long come and gone. The question is, can it be replicated by a new band of protestors waving the flag of anti-establishment politics? To put it more plainly, will the 2020 farm protests do to the Modi 2.0 government what the 2011 Anna anti-corruption movement did to Dr Manmohan Singh regime?
