Ravalli County Sheriff Asks Public Help in 2020 Corvallis Arson
The July 6, 2020, Corvallis Apartment fire that killed three people continues to be investigated by the Ravalli County Sheriff s Office. Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton said two sheriff s detectives and a civilian investigator have been making progress through interviews and combing through technical data. But he s requesting help from the public.
Initial investigation of the early morning fire last year found evidence of an accelerent used on the second floor landing that started the fire, which killed three people. Another woman, who jumped from a second floor window, had severe burn and other injuries.
MHP Provides More Details on Friday’s Fatal Crash near Florence
Montana Highway Patrol Sergeant Scott Bennett provided details of how the accident occurred.
“It was late Friday at 5:20 p.m. and this took place on Highway 93, south of the Missoula Ravalli County line north of Florence,” said Sergeant Bennett. “The woman that was killed was driving a Toyota Four Runner and she was traveling northbound like she d be going towards Lolo, but she slowed down to make a left turn into her driveway. The vehicle behind her was a GMC Yukon with a 19 year old male driving and he ran into the back of her vehicle, and then both of those vehicles then crossed into the oncoming southbound traffic lane where two southbound vehicles crashed into them, so we ended up with a four vehicle crash.”
Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton told KGVO News late Tuesday morning that the roads, specifically Highway 93 South have become extremely slick and several accidents have been reported.

Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton published a personal letter from himself and his office to the citizens of Ravalli County, but residents of Missoula and the entire state and country can take comfort and encouragement from his words.

While everyone is looking to put 2020 behind us and excited for what 2021 will bring, we cannot forget that the circumstances and risks of 2020 did not go away at midnight on December 31st. However I have confidence in Ravalli County and our communities. We are going to survive the current COVID pandemic, but we must be cautious not to lose our sense of community and compassion for each other.
