Volunteerism keeps alive the Pageant of the Masters, the place where art comes to life

Volunteerism keeps alive the Pageant of the Masters, the place where art comes to life Cast members who play in the “Declaration of Independence” tableaux vivant wait before they take the stage in the 2021 Pageant of the Masters show “Made in America.” (Don Leach / Staff Photographer) The lights go up, the audience goes quiet and all else is still. In that very moment, the crowd is transported to another period as it gazes upon the re-creation of artwork in a unique style known as tableaux vivant. It is the great draw of the Pageant of the Masters, a show that like the art it replicates, has stood the test of time. The living picture show started in Laguna Beach in 1933.

Around Town: Laguna Beach places ban on single-use plastics on beaches, parks and trails

Print As part of the city’s Neighborhood and Environmental Protection Plan, Laguna Beach has adopted an ordinance that addresses plastic pollution. The ordinance, which took effect on Thursday, bans single-use plastic food ware items in the city’s beaches, parks and trails. The sale, use or distribution of single-use, to-go plastics such as straws, drink stirrers, eating utensils and take-out bags made from such material is also prohibited. The city urges local food and beverage vendors to use reusable materials when possible. Restaurants are asked not to provide non-plastic alternatives like paper straws unless a customer requests them. A food vendor may receive a one-year exemption from the ban on plastic food service ware if it can show that the conditions of the ordinance would cause undue hardship.

Cool Things to Do In Southern California 10: Laguna Beach

Cool Things to Do In Southern California 10: Laguna Beach Thursday, July 15, 2021 - by Scott S. Smith and Sandra Wells Laguna Beach was founded as an art colony and its world-famous art festivals have just been revived after being paused during the pandemic (the summer versions closing in early September and every art lover should sign up immediately). The area also features a lot of public art, from huge murals to dynamic statues: https://www.visitlagunabeach.com/things-to-do/art-culture/public-art/ Despite the economic impact of the past year, over 100 art galleries are still open and our own latest discovery in July was the visionary painter and sculptor
