A 101-YEAR-OLD is thrilled to have had the coronavirus vaccine so she can go back to the hairdressers. NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG posted a picture of Lucy Harvey, age 101 and said she was really pleased to receive her Covid-19 vaccination today in Darwen. She said: “I am pleased that this is going to stop COVID and I can start going back to the hairdressers on a Thursday to get my hair done.” Both Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust were among the 50 hospital hubs in England where Covid-19 vaccines were to be administered in the first wave of the immunisation programme.

Lancashire s first robotic surgeon completes milestone 1,000th operation

Lancashire’s most advanced surgical robotic system has performed its 1,000th procedure, three years after being introduced in one of the county s hospitals. The introduction of the DaVinci Xi robotic system, which conducted its first operation on May 3 2017, has meant Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is now able to improve outcomes for patients with cancer. Over the last three years the DaVinci Xi has performed many notable surgeries including the first upper gastrointestinal robotic tract surgery in the North West. The system was funded in the most part by Rosemere Cancer Foundation, who contributed a staggering £1.25m to get the DaVinci Xi in place at Royal Preston Hospital.
