The UK Secretary of State for Transport has appointed Christopher Rodrigues CBE as the new Non-Executive Chair of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), the government agency responsible for preventing the loss of life on the coast and at sea, as well as producing legislation and guidance on maritime matters.
Rodrigues brings extensive international experience as a chair of public, private, and government sector bodies in tourism, the arts, and public diplomacy and since 2016 as chair of the Port of London, Britain’s largest port. His leadership will contribute to the MCA’s ongoing plans to transform the agency as it works on innovation and regulation, while seeking to grow the UK Flag and helping boost the maritime economy, the announcement released Monday reads.

ATPI Marine & Energy (www.atpi.com) today announces a partnership with London International Shipping Week 2021 (LISW21). Co-sponsoring with Qatar Airways, the specialist travel management company will kick off the week by opening the London Stock Exchange on the morning of 13 September 2021.

Looking Forward To Lisw21 In-Person This September
Following the announcement in February of the UK Prime Minister’s roadmap out of the COVID-19 restrictions, Shipping Innovation, organisers of London International Shipping Week 2021, would like to confirm that LISW21 will go ahead this year as a mixture of in-person and virtual events.
LISW21, the week-long maritime showcase supported by the domestic and international shipping, ports and maritime industries as well as the UK Government, will take place from 13-17 September this year, giving certainty to delegates aiming to attend, as well as to sponsors and supporting organisations who are now scheduling their own events.
Maritime UK: Update from the Department for International Trade’s Maritime Team
Maritime UK and its members work with the Department for International Trade (DIT) to boost exports and investment for the maritime sector. This partnership is focused through the joint industry and government Maritime Export and Investment Advisory Group, comprised of officials from DIT and Maritime UK. The group has responsibility for delivering thejoint inudstry-government five-year plan for maritime exports and investment.

CYPRUS – WORLDWIDE – This week Cypriot Shipping Deputy Minister, Vassilios Demetriades wrote to both the EU Transport and Health Commissioners and the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Secretary-General outlining proposals to better ensure the safe vaccination of all crew against the Covid virus.
The Minister suggested that seafarers involved in short sea traffic should all be immunised locally whilst deep sea staff should be vaccinated ashore and those at sea designated as ‘bubbles’ in isolation. In all cases the vaccines used should be subject to a globally agreed standard with adequate numbers of approved vaccines, acceptable to all governments, administered in the seafarers country of residence to before travelling to join their ships.
