Food cold chain sustainability part of £2.9m award to University of Birmingham to support energy-related projects
Researchers have secured £1.4m of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding to produce a landmark roadmap for how the UK s extensive cold food chain industry can curb its significant emissions.
The University of Birmingham is leading the four-year project, which aims to set out the ways the cold food chain can align with the UK s climate goals whilst remaining competitive, it announced late last week.
Academics from Heriot-Watt University, London South Bank University, and Cranfield University are also involved in the government-backed project, which will bring together scientists, innovators, customers, and retailers to map a whole-system approach to reducing the emissions impact of the sector.

NHS Employers, which is part of the NHS Confederation, described the webinar on Wednesday as a “knowledge sharing session between employers and HR professionals”.
It said attendees would “hear employers share their successes of using the role and celebrate how nursing associates have contributed to the NHS workforce supply”.
“Their approach to implementing drug and IV administration supports the scale up of the role within the NHS workforce,” it added.
During the webinar attendees took part in a poll, which found that almost all (97%) had nursing associates in their workplace.
“If I’m being honest, our nursing associates do see this as a route to becoming a registered nurse”
