Lateral flow Covid tests are being given to millions of schoolchildren with the WRONG instructions

Controversial lateral flow tests may have been sent out to millions of schoolchildren with the wrong instructions, it has emerged.  Many of the Chinese-made kits contained guidance saying they were to be used by people suffering symptoms of coronavirus going against official UK guidance. The devices were also sent out with a notice that they were to be administered to people suspected of Covid by their healthcare provider , The Telegraph reports.  It comes despite the Government claiming the main purpose of the 30-minute tests is to catch asymptomatic carriers, who make up a third of all new infections. Britons who fall ill are supposed to get a PCR test, which is much more accurate. This process automatically logs the case in the Government s coronavirus contact tracing programme.

This comes as the UK-backed COVAX scheme reaches deliveries of vaccines to 100 countries and territories. One billion people in developing countries have now been reached with advice, hygiene products and access to handwashing facilities in a campaign launched between the UK government and British business Unilever to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
