Albon ‘bags Ferrari drive’ for 2021 DTM switch

Alex Albon’s DTM appearances during 2021 are set to be at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 GT3 as Red Bull return to the series.
The London-born Thai driver will gain further experience in the touring car category this year while he serves as the reserve to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in F1, along with his testing and sim duties.
Motorsport.com report that although it is so far unofficial which car Albon, along with Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson, will drive in DTM, their understanding is that it will be the Ferrari 488 GT3.

Alex Albon could be loaned by Red Bull to a rival team in 2021 if they urgently need a driver, Dr Helmut Marko has revealed.
The London-born Thai was pushed out of his Red Bull race seat at the end of the 2020 season having failed to come up to scratch as Max Verstappen’s team-mate.
Sergio Perez was hired instead in the quest to take the World Championship fight to Mercedes, with Albon switching to reserve and test driver status.
Nevertheless, with Perez only having an initial one-year contract, Red Bull still hope Albon will eventually regain his place and show why they had invested so much faith in him.

Perez, who was out of contract with Racing Point, will race alongside Max Verstappen for the Milton Keynes-based team in 2021. The popular driver put himself in the frame to replace the inconsistent Albon with a stirring first ever F1 win at the 190th attempt at Sakhir in Bahrain in the penultimate race of the season just ended.
Perez tweet hints at how Red Bull door opened

With Sergio Perez confirmed as a Red Bull driver for 2021, a tweet from the Mexican racer may just have hinted how that door opened.
Red Bull are known for a heavy reliance on their junior driver programme, headed by Dr Helmut Marko.
And over the years it has served Red Bull very well indeed, producing the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen who have all gone on to establish themselves as key figures in Formula 1.
Recently, though, the Red Bull pond has dried up somewhat. For 2019, the team were forced to recall Alex Albon and Daniil Kvyat to the set-up to fill the seats at Toro Rosso, while their brightest prospect Pierre Gasly struggled to compete with Verstappen after making the step up to Red Bull that year.
