The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees named the new principals at Irons Middle School and Miller Elementary School, and two new administrative appointments.
Kenneth Casarez was named the district s chief innovation officer. According to a news release, he is currently the executive director of secondary education in Castleberry ISD. Casarez started teaching in 1994 at Cavazos Middle School, and he s had administrative experience as a principal at Irons Middle School, and assistant and associate principal at Estacado High School, Lubbock High School, and Cavazos.
Erin Gregg was appointed executive director of communications and community relations. She has been with the district since 2016, serving as the assistant director of communications and the community relations and communications coordinator.

One of the longest serving professors for Texas Tech University is retiring.
Dr. Bill Dean has announced that he will be leaving Texas Tech University, effective June 1, 2021. Dr. Dean s retirement from the university comes after he spent over half a century molding students as part of the College of Media & Communication (formerly Mass Communications).
In addition to his work as a professor, Dr. Dean also was the President and CEO of the Texas Tech Alumni Association for 40 years, from 1988-2018.

Lubbock Fire Rescue hosts high school academy aiming to bolster recruitment

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - After a successful first year, Lubbock Fire Rescue is hoping to bring in more area students and school districts into its high school fire academy.
“We wanted to not just tell you how to be a firefighter, but give you the opportunity,” LFR Captain Phillip Grandon said. “We want you to come to our program so you can be a firefighter.”
The academy is a collaboration with South Plains College, which has for many years hosted an evening academy for adults. This high school program has welcomed a total of 19 Lubbock Cooper ISD and Lubbock ISD seniors in its first year.
