It’s unclear why the unmarked police vehicles made the stop, but according to a press release from the Lubbock Police Department, the stop was made lawfully. However, the Chevy Silverado did not stop and instead led officers on a car chase through Lubbock. During the chase, the suspect struck a Chevy Camaro driven by 55-year-old Maria Ramirez. Luckily, it’s reported that she did not suffer any injuries.

Shortly after 12:45 a.m. Sept. 9, 1997, officers responded to a call for service referencing shots fired with a subject down in the 2700 block of E. Colgate Street. Upon arrival, officers found Johnson laying in front of his residence. The investigation found that Johnson was in front of his residence when a vehicle approached. The driver called out to Johnson and asked him to approach the car. Johnson began to run from the vehicle after identifying one of the two occupants had a firearm. While fleeing, Johnson was shot.

Suspect Flees To Canada After Fatal Hit-and-Run   LUBBOCK, TX – A 29-year-old Shallowater man has been indicted and charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run. According to law enforcement, Benjamin Mitchell was traveling in a Buick Lacrosse 4600 block of Avenue Q. An officer who was traveling in the opposite direction on Ave Q observed Mitchell driving at a high rate of speed. Before he could turn around and conduct a traffic stop, the officer heard tires screeching and the impact of the crash. Mitchell had struck a motorcycle and left the scene without stopping to check on the two riders. The riders were identified as 40-year-old Anthony Childers and 31-year-old Barbara Matthews of Hobbs, New Mexico. They died at the scene.
