Abbott mobilizes resources as winter storm threatens Lubbock area with heavy snow

Abbott mobilizes resources as winter storm threatens Lubbock area with heavy snow Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday was mobilizing state resources in advance of a potent winter storm that could bring 4 to 8 inches of snow to Lubbock and the South Plains this weekend. The National Weather Service in Lubbock issued a winter storm watch for Lubbock County and much of the region from Saturday evening through Sunday, prompting area road crews to start preparing roadways in anticipation of slick conditions and Lubbock area schools to announce some early remote-learning contingency plans if Monday classes are impacted. A strong storm system will move over New Mexico Saturday night and the Permian Basin on Sunday spreading snow across the South Plains region, reads a statement from the weather service. The current track supports the possibility of heavy snowfall across most of the South Plains region with current forecast snowfall amounts of 4 to 8 inches for the event.
