$5 6M Gets Seized in Lubbock; Reports Say Target Victim of Fraud

Get our free mobile app On Thursday, April 8th, around $5.6 million, said to have been taken illegally from Target Corporation, was seized from 2 Lubbock bank accounts. KAMC News reports that the 2 accounts were created under the name of WIS SAFETY, LLC., which was established back in 2016 in Brownfield. It hasn t been a viable business entity since February of 2020, reports say. Back in August of 2020, one of the 2 accounts received the vast majority of the $5.6 million in a payment from Target Corporation. This payment was intended for ICU Eyewear, one of the corporation s vendors. Court documents say the correct amount was recently changed to the Lubbock-based account with a spoofed email address. This means that the email address used was a fake.

That could be changing soon with a petition gaining traction on change.org to rename the Loop to reflect Lubbock Christian Universities Women s basketball coach Steve Gomez s contributions to the City of Lubbock. The petition states, Steve Gomez is a notable figure among Lubbock citizens for his successful leadership as Head Coach of LCU’s Lady Chaps Basketball Team as well as USA National Women’s Basketball teams.  That successful leadership has led to three Division II National Championships in the last six seasons and another appearance when LCU was at the NAIA level. Gomez and the Lady Chaps also hold the distinction of being the only Women s DII program to have two undefeated National Championship runs.
