This Independence Day weekend will be especially sweet for Americans, who will be liberated from many of the COVID-19 protocols they followed this time last year.
But there still are things to keep in mind before heading out. Masks and social distancing rules still are required in some places and there are different rules for people who are vaccinated and those who are not.
If you’re fully vaccinated, you won’t need a mask when meeting friends inside your favorite restaurant.
If you’re catching a bus or trolley to that restaurant, however, you still have to wear a mask. Metropolitan Transit System requires everyone to wear a face covering while riding one of its vehicles and while waiting at a stop or at an MTS station. North County Transit District is abiding by the same protocols.

Los Angeles County public health officials are now strongly recommending everyone to wear masks in indoor public places, regardless of vaccination status, due to an increased spread of the Delta variant.
The recommendation, which officials say is a precautionary measure, is a change from recent mask guidance, which allows fully vaccinated people to go maskless in most indoor and outdoor settings. Public Health strongly recommends people wear masks indoors in settings such as grocery or retail stores; theaters and family entertainment centers, and workplaces when you don t know everyone s vaccination status, L.A. County Department of Public Health said in a statement.
Less than two weeks after lifting indoor mask requirements, L.A. County health officials on today strongly recommended that everyone including those who are vaccinated wear masks in indoor public places due to rapid spread of the Delta variant, a highly contagious mutation of COVID-19.
Masks should be worn in grocery or retail stores, theaters, family entertainment centers and workplaces when the vaccination status of others isn t known. Until we better understand how and to who the `Delta variant is spreading, everyone should focus on maximum protection with minimum interruption to routine as all businesses operate without other restrictions like physical distancing and capacity limits, according to a statement from the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
