Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, teams of volunteers and community members have been canvassing door-to-door in the houses of East Los Angeles to determine if people are eligible for the coronavirus vaccine. Currently, L.A. County is in Phase 1B of the vaccination distribution process which includes anyone 50 years or older, people with health conditions and disabilities and people working in healthcare, education, childcare, emergency services, maintenance, transportation and food and agriculture. Starting April 15, all individuals over 16 will be eligible for vaccination.

After COVID-19 forced the storied venue to scrap the 2020 season the first full cancellation in 98 years the Los Angeles Philharmonic is expected to announce Friday that the Bowl will reopen May 15 with a free concert for healthcare workers, first responders and other essential workers, including grocery store staff, custodians and delivery drivers.
“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for,” said L.A. Phil President and Chief Executive Chad Smith. “The Bowl is back.”

“If we meet the state’s criteria for a full reopening, we’re going to be able to give concerts at 100% of our audience capacity, and that’s a game changer for us and other performing arts organizations,” Smith said.

Even as California prepares to expand vaccine eligibility on April 15 to all residents 16 and older, the state has managed to inoculate only about half its senior population the 65-and-older target group deemed most vulnerable to death and serious illness in the pandemic.
Overall, nearly 56% of California seniors have received the full course of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the latest data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s about average compared with other states not nearly as high as places like South Dakota, where almost 74% of seniors are fully vaccinated, but also not as far behind as Hawaii, which has reached 44%.
