View Comments WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A team of Purdue University students has won a national competition aimed at unlocking the power of the world s oceans. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy announced this week that Purdue s team of undergraduate and graduate students finished first in the 2021 Marine Energy Collegiate Competition.  The contest challenged multidisciplinary teams to unlock the power of the ocean, rivers and tides to create a business plan and develop, design and test the technologies that provide power at sea. The MECC award ceremony was held on April 29, and Kelly Speakes-Backman, the acting assistant secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, recognized the winning team during the closing plenary for the 2021 International Conference on Ocean Energy.
