Police seeking help to find Lafayette rape suspect

LAFAYETTE, La. â The Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office is requesting assistance from the public to find a man being charged with first degree rape.
LPSO say that Leon O Neil Fava, 46, of Lafayette is wanted on a charge of first degree rape.

Lafayette Parish Correctional Center sees increase in COVID-19 cases

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office say that the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center has seen a rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases among inmates and staff.
The Sheriff s Office says that currently 12 housing units are under quarantine due to positive COVID-19 cases or inmates being quarantined for precautionary measures.
Those 12 units, they say, make up 40 percent of LPCC s inmate population. 199 inmates are currently under quarantine, according to the sheriff s office, and 69 of those have received results indicating they have tested positive for COVID-19.
14 of the 69 inmates have mild symptoms and the sheriff s office says that the remaining 55 are asymptomatic.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office is investigating a shooting that left one person in critical condition.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office spokesperson John Mowell says that deputies responded to a shooting on Sunday December 13, in the 100 Block of Greek Street in the parish. One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Our detectives are investigating and ask for anyone with any information to please contact our office or Lafayette Crime Stoppers.
