Purdue P.D. to get body cameras for officers
Purdue University Police will soon outfit all of their officers with body cameras.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- Purdue University Police will soon outfit all of their officers with body cameras. Purdue Police have had in-vehicle cameras for 20 years. The new body-worn camera system will include data storage and be connected with updated in car-cameras. PUPD often works with the West Lafayette Police Department which uses a similar system.
Chief John Cox says this new tool will provide more transparency to the public and more protection for all 45 members of their police force. He says several officers were asking to have the cameras added.

LPD hosting second Junior Police Academy this week

Acadiana teens are participating in the Lafayette Police Department s second Junior Police Academy this week.
The cadet academy will run through Friday, July 23, and welcomes ages 13-15.
It focuses on increasing youth awareness and confidence, relationship building, learning the various aspects of law enforcement, and creating a better understanding between youth and police through education and a fun learning experience.
LPD shared an update following the first day of the academy. After a few classroom activities, cadets finished off the day by collecting garbage in an effort to give back to the community.
