It gives me great pleasure to be here at the occasion of the annual Lagos Architects Forum, and to be able to share with you my thoughts on what I believe should be the role of the architect in the city, and to some extent, other professionals in the built environment, in a post-pandemic era, and for the next couple of decades. To start with, I have always been intrigued by the way the built environment is developed and evolves, and even more so by the people who make the decisions that result in the environment that we all live in, or should I say, have to live with. As a former Commissioner of Housing in this State, I have had the opportunity to interact with many professionals in the built environment and have had discussions and exchanged ideas about the intentional steps that could be taken to make our cities work better for its inhabitants.

Breaking News | Lagos Generates 14,000 Metric Tonnes Waste Daily — Commissioner

Views: Visits 10 Lagos State generates over 14,000 metric tonnes of refuse on a daily basis, according to its Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello. Bello said this during the ministry’s 2021 Ministerial Press Briefing on Thursday, in Ikeja, to highlight the achievements of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in two years. He said that the quantity of refuse generated in the state was far beyond what the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) evacuated daily, as some were being dumped in other illegal dumpsites across the state. The commissioner said that about 70 per cent of the waste in the state got to approved dumpsites, while the remaining 30 per cent was dumped at the illegal sites.
