The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has released guidelines for aspirants contesting on its platform for the July 24 Local Government election in the state.
The PDP Chairman in Lagos, Adedeji Doherty who made this known in a statement released on Thursday said sales of nomination forms for the Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship and Councillorship positions will begin on May 7 and end on May 14, while May 18 is the last day for the submission of the forms.
According to him, the party’s screening exercise for the chairmanship and councillorship aspirants would hold on May 20, while ward congresses/councillorship primaries, have been scheduled for May 25.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has launched a user-friendly website as part of the forthcoming local council elections slated for July 24, 2021.
In her remarks at the launch on Wednesday, Chairman of the Commission, Hon Justice Ayotunde Phillips (rtd), disclosed that the new website would further boost communication between the Commission, electoral stakeholders and the public, particularly at this crucial period of election preparations.
She added that, for the purpose of transparency, recruitment of ad-hoc personnel will be carried out online, media accreditation and election observer forms will also be available for download from the website.
For the legitimacy and credibility of the electoral process to be guaranteed, she said, “The electorate must be encouraged, educated, informed and provided with basic information about participating in elections so as to freely express their political choices”.

The Chairman of Somolu Local Government Area in Lagos State, Abdul Hamed Salawu, has been accused of certificate forgery, falsified identity and fraud.
Salawu, who is at the centre of a multi-million dollar fraud in the United States, allegedly uses a false identity in Nigeria after being indicted abroad.

The chairman, who is popularly known as Dullar due to his flamboyant lifestyle, was based in Germany where he had a daughter with a native but left after committing a felony.

Ahead of the forthcoming local government election in Lagos State, a group, United Foundation for Survival and Sustainability, has cautioned the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), against conducting the poll in 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
It said the exercise should only take place in 20 Local Government Area (LGAs) across the state.
A statement issued by the Chairman of the group, Mr. Ahmed Adekunle, said going ahead to do so would be tantamount to violation of the provisions of Section 3(6). 7 and the first schedule Part 1 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
