No fewer than five persons have been reportedly killed while yet-to-be ascertained number of people have sustained gunshot injuries when armed robbers stormed Wema Bank and Microfinance banks located in Okuku, Osun State.
Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the armed robbers stormed the bank around 1 pm and dismantled the ATM machines fixed in front of the Wema Bank.
One of the deceased, a motorcycle operator was said to be in front of the bank when the robbers shot him.
Another man whose identity is yet-to-be identified was said to be playing Ludo game in front of his house in the town when a stray bullet reportedly hit him in the chest.

Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has revealed its intention to substantially increase its deposit insurance fund beyond N2 trillion, in order to cope with any widespread systemic failure that might occur in the future.
The new Managing Director of the corporation, Mr Bello Hassan made this known on Thursday at his inauguration and that of the new Executive Director, Operations, Mr Muhammed Ibrahim by Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed.
Hassan who was Director, Banking Supervision Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria until this appointment said there need to build up depositors’ insurance fund because that is what we use in making payout in the event of any liquidation.

Taraba State government on Thursday received a total of 56,250 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government.
Director of immunization, Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Kenneth Tijos, received the vaccines on behalf of the state government at the Yola Airport, Adamawa State.
Presenting the vaccine to the Taraba State Ministry of Health, the Executive Secretary Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Aminu Jauro, said the first batch of the vaccines would be administered to frontline health workers across the state.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abeneza Apakye, permanent secretary in the ministry commended the federal government for her efforts towards tackling the deadly disease in the country.

The police of Ekiti State have arrested one Akirun Peter who was planning with others to attack the new police station in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti and to kill the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the station.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Abutu while parading suspected criminals at the command’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital said the suspect was also planning to kidnap an unnamed police officer in the station and asked N5 million ransom from the family.
Abutu noted that on 3rd March 2021, the surveillance team of the command suspected his movement and when accosted he could not give satisfactory explanations on his mission in the state.
