Chiemelie Ezeobi reports that the second wave of the #EndSARS protest was met with stiff resistance from the police in Lagos as the protesters, under the aegis of #OccupyLekkiTollgate stormed the street to register their grouse about the decision of the judicial panel to reopen the Lekki Tollgate Last week Saturday, the second wave of the #EndSARS protest began in Lagos under the auspices of #OccupyLekkiTollGate, with more than 40 protesters arrested and dehumanised by police operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command. #EndSARS Movement Although the sobriquet #EndSARS did not start recently, it gained momentum during last year’s nationwide protests against the now disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and police brutality in general. Often attributed to Mr. Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink since 2017, a human rights activist and advocate, the hashtag became a rallying point to kick against acts of brutality, harassment and even extra judicial killing

Punch Newspapers Sections Kayode Oyero As the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki Toll Gate hands over the toll gate back to its operators, Lekki Concession Company, residents of the area have written the LCC to lament the potential return of traffic gridlock associated with toll collection along the axis. The residents said they pay for “inconveniences rather than for convenience” as they spend about 30 minutes to pay at the toll due to the “poor experience and services” of the LCC. This was contained in a communique issued on Sunday and co-signed by Olorogun Emadoye and Gbemi Adelekan, President and Secretary General of the Lekki Estates Residents & Stakeholders Association respectively.

Stakeholders, rights groups fume over arrest of EndSARS protesters

Daily Post Nigeria Published Some rights groups, Saturday threatened to take legal actions over the arrest of peaceful EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate. DAILY POST had reported earlier that police operatives deployed to Lekki Toll Gate arrested some protesters including Nigerian comedian, Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni. But following reactions from Nigerians, the police ordered their release. EndSARS protesters had called for a demonstration against the reopening of the Lekki Toll Gate after Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the EndSARS granted the Lekki Concession Company, LCC, permission to reopen the toll gate. The toll gate was closed after the October 2020 incident that led to the killings of some End SARS protesters.
