TODAY Inside Mainland A middle-aged man was crushed to death in Bolade, Oshodi area of Lagos, yesterday, during a stampede caused by commercial bus drivers, who were trying to evade arrest by policemen attached to the Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit. The operatives, as gathered, stormed the area to effect the arrest of defiant commercial drivers, who disobeyed traffic regulations. On sighting the operatives, the drivers attempted to flee the scene. Three persons were reportedly hit in the process. News later went round that Task Force operatives had killed some persons in the area. The news would have sparked up violence as some persons were reportedly spoiling for a showdown with the Task Force operatives, whose office is located not too far from the scene.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at Oshodi area of Lagos around 6am while the van was chasing a commercial bus driver. A Twitter user, @datoshodiboi, who identified himself as Dare’s cousin, said the deceased was waiting to board a bus to his office when he was hit by the police vehicle.

Ten persons arrested for attacking Lagos taskforce officers

TODAY Inside Mainland Ten persons were yesterday arrested for attacking the men of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Agency (Taskforce) during an enforcement of the state’s traffic laws. The suspects were picked up in the commotion that broke out in Ojodu and Obanikoro during the enforcement carried out by the Taskforce in several areas in Lagos. No fewer than 96 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, operating on highways and in other restricted routes in the metropolis, were impounded in yesterday operation. Also, four motorists driving against the traffic were arrested by the Anti-One Way team of the faskforce. It was gathered that some hoodlums teamed up with Okada riders around Ojodu Grammar School to resist the move by the Taskforce to take away motorcycles seized during the enforcement.

One killed as motorcyclists, task force clash in Lagos

Punch Newspapers Sections Deji Lambo One person has been reported killed during a clash between motorcyclists and policemen attached to the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit in the Agric area of Ikorodu Road on Friday. PUNCH Metro gathered that the clash started with a shouting match between the policemen and the motorcyclists and later degenerated into the use of different weapons, including bottles, cutlasses and guns. Eyewitnesses, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, said there were continuous shootings, which sent shivers down the spines of residents and business owners operating along the Garage, Benson and Agric axis in Ikorodu.
