Lagos State Government would take over the control of Apapa gridlock from the Federal Task Force, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said.
He said this on Monday when he visited the Apapa area of the state to assess the situation on the ground in preparation for the takeover of the management of the Apapa traffic.

On May 22nd 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari set up a Presidential Task Force Team on Apapa gridlock, with the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo as the chairman and Comrade Kayode Opeifa to serve as the vice chairman.
The objective of its establishment is to return normalcy to Apapa because of the incessant gridlock that is crippling the area, enforce discipline, introduce a workable manual call up system pending the introduction of electronic call-up system by NPA, Dvelip and Deoy a working traffic management system, coordinate and control trucks and tanker drivers who are designated to access the seaport to stay off

Lagos State Government has announced plans to install over 2,000 Close Circuit Television, CCTV, cameras across the state next year to monitor traffic congestion as well as complement efforts of traffic managers in combating the menace of traffic offenders on the road.
This came as the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, commended the management and staff of Lagos Traffic Radio, LTR, for their relentless effort in providing traffic information and also efforts in reducing gridlock through live reports, which enables residents to navigate smoothly across the metropolis on a daily basis.
