President Muhammadu Buhari, the newly elected Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo, and the President, African Development Bank, AFDB, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, has called for development in economic infrastructure, investment in youths, and enhanced private sector contribution for Lagos as a smart city.
The trio made the call on Tuesday, virtually at the opening session of the ongoing three-day economic summit in Lagos, tagged: “Eghingbeti Lagos Economic Summit 2021 with the theme: “Setting the tone for a greater Lagos, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ehingbeti: Expediting the transformation of Lagos

Since 2000, Nigeria’s commercial capital and Africa’s sixth largest economy, Lagos State, has been going through landmark policy and infrastructural transformation to a modern city.
Driving this transformation is the Lagos Economic Summit, a private sector-led participatory forum, also known as ‘Ehingbeti’.
Notwithstanding the absence of Ehingbeti between 2015 and 2019, the significance of the Lagos Economic Summit is evident across the State.
Even though the private sector-led conversation continues with the 2021edition holding this week, implementation of some of the consensus reached at pre-2015 summits, also demonstrated that Ehingbeti is an unending dialogue in the quest for socio-economic and infrastructural development in Lagos State.

The federal government has expressed its readiness to support more massive investments in the Centre of Excellence to boost its economic potential as one of the world’s fastest growing mega cities.
President Muhammadu Buhari made this known on Tuesday in a video goodwill message to the Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit, themed: ‘‘For a Greater Lagos: Setting the Tone for the Next Decade.’’
According to him, the present administration recognised Lagos as central to the economic fortunes of Nigeria and has in the last few years demonstrated commitment to supporting it unleash its full socio-economic potential.
The president, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina, stressed that the federal government approved special federal funding for Lagos in 2020 in acknowledgement of the state being an epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic.
