From Singapore to Rio, the smart money is on greener buildings

May 7, 2021 On a typically hot and humid afternoon in Singapore, a fresh breeze blows beneath the canopy of the South Beach development, keeping temperatures several degrees cooler than on the surrounding streets. The rippling 280-meter wave of steel-and-aluminum runs the length of the Norman Foster-designed complex, funneling prevailing winds over outdoor patrons of restaurants and bars and saving on air conditioning for the mixed-use complex. Antony Blinken, Pompeo’s successor, said: “I think we should be looking at making sure that we are not importing products that are made with forced labor from Xinjiang.”

Aberdeen Standard Investments Ltd., BNP Paribas Asset Management and Pictet Asset Management are among funds suggesting the summit’s outcome can spark a green rally, after it brought the U.S. back into the global conversation on climate change and spurred new emissions-linked targets from the likes of China, Japan and South Korea. The rules of alpha engagement in China

The rules of alpha engagement in China By David Smith 27 April 2021 If you’re a passive investor, you’re missing out on the chance to make a positive impact on the companies you own. So what does it mean to be an active shareholder? Being active means engaging with companies after you’ve bought them, constructively asking questions of management with a view to encouraging improvement. This can help drive investment returns, in our experience. Engagement means different things to different people. In practice, there are two types: proactive suggestions around environment, social and governance (ESG) issues; and remedial efforts to get a company back on track in response to a negative event.
