Solar firms pledge to act against Chinese Uighur abuse
Uighur Rights groups say the commitment to develop a tool to increase supply chain transparency is not enough

Some of the world’s largest solar companies have united against China s abuse of its Uighur Muslim minority and signed a pledge opposing forced labour in the solar supply chain.
On Thursday, the trade group, Solar Energy Industries Association, published a letter on its website that was co-signed by 175 companies including global electricity companies Duke Energy and Engie SA. We hereby commit to helping ensure that the solar supply chain is free of forced labor and raising awareness within the industry on this important issue, said the letter.
Yesterday Shanghai Composite Index closed down 0.4% at 3606.75, and over at Shenzhen the main benchmark index rose 0.7%, both trading volumes totaled RMB 1.1 trln, up 21.07% from the previous trading day.
