Florence police charge man with abuse/torture of a child

The Florence Police Department on Friday arrested a man on charges related to the abuse of a child.
Stephen Purdy, 32, is charged with torture/willful abuse of a child under 18 years of age by a responsible person.
Police said investigators learned about the juvenile victim from the Department of Human Resources.
Purday was booked in the Lauderdale County Detention Center with a $2,500 bond.
He has since been released.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Florence Police officers responded to the 500 block of South Cedar St. to a report of shots being fired on Saturday.
According to officers, once they arrived to the scene they located 29-year-old Hattan Atif Mashat injured. Officers provided medical aid to the male on scene until Shoals Ambulance arrived and transported him to North Alabama Medical Center for further care.
Officers tell WAFF 48 Mashat was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) - Two people were arrested after Police say an assault took place in Florence on December 18th.
The Florence Police Department Investigation Division and Florence Police Officers responded to a call Friday afternoon after they received a report about a male being assaulted.
Officers say the victim then directed them to an address on Virginia Ave., where he says the assault took place.
James Allison and Tara Phillips were arrested in connection to the assault.
FLORENCE-On Friday, December 11 the Florence Police Department released a statement concerning the arrest of suspects in two different cases involving car break-ins and theft:
“December 9, 2020, Florence Police Officers responded to 2536 Florence Blvd. in regard to the report of a 1973 Dodge Challenger having been stolen. It was also discovered that multiple other vehicles had been burglarized on the property. Lundon Matthew Michael Meyers II (8/26/1995) was identified as the suspect. Meyers was located within a few hours and arrested. Meyers has been charged with Theft of Property 1st, Theft of Property 2nd,
Theft of Property 3rd, Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Center and awaiting a $35,000 bond.
