HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) TSA officers detected twice as many firearms per million passengers screened at airport security checkpoints nationwide last year compared to 2019, and Houston ranked high on the list with the most detections, according to a press release from the agency.
The TSA says this is a significantly higher rate than any other year recorded before.
In 2020, officers reportedly caught approximately 10 firearms per million passengers, compared to five per million passengers screened in 2019.
In total, the TSA says it discovered 3,257 firearms on passengers or in carry-ons in 2020. Of those, about 83% were loaded.
Despite the decrease in air travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers confiscated more guns from passengers in 2020 than in 2019.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport expands CLEAR security lanes to all terminals
CLEAR’s biometrics-enabled security lanes are now available across all terminals at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) has completed an expansion project to bring CLEAR’s touchless technology to FLL’s Terminal 4.
With this expansion, CLEAR’s expedited security lanes are now available across all FLL airport terminals.
CLEAR’s touchless travel experience aims to minimise unnecessary passenger and airport personnel interaction by eliminating the need for CLEAR members to hand travel documents to agents during the security screening process. CLEAR uses an individual’s unique biometrics to confirm their identity, replacing the need to use traditional identification documents prior to air travel.
