St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz and his office are warning the public about counterfeit money circulating in the area.
In a post on Facebook, the Sheriff s Office says that most of the complaints are coming from local truck stop casinos and are in all denominations. They say detectives have been working on several cases where even marking pen and counters aren t detecting the fake bills.
To help spot counterfeit bills, the Sheriff s Office has a few tips for residents:

Former Louisiana Animal Control Director Charged With Theft
A former Animal Control Director in Louisiana is facing criminal charges for alleged livestock theft and malfeasance in office.
Stacey Alleman McKnight, of St. Landry Parish, has turned herself into authorities in the wake of charges being filed against her. Those charges include eight counts of theft, malfeasance in office, and injuring public records.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told KLFY that in October of last year, deputies responded to a complaint call on theft of livestock, public files, and parish property.
Through their investigation, the deputies found out three horses were missing from the animal control center. Also missing were several cattle/horse panels, fencing, and kennels. It was also discovered McKnight had posted pictures on her social media accounts of the horses at her residence.

St. Landry Parish Teen Dead After Being Shot
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says, via press release, that a 16-year-old boy is dead.
This male was shot in the back. He was taken to an area hospital, but he died from his injuries.
Guidroz says they are not giving out very many details about the case yet as the investigation is ongoing.
They are hoping that someone with information will call St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers at 337-789-TIPS(8477).

27-year-old Rasiem Fredericks of Opelousas has been arrested after he allegedly slapped a 6-year-old boy who he says was being disrespectful to him on Christmas Day.
According to a press release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, Fredericks was with the 6-year-old child, as well as a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old while their mother was away from her home in the 100 block of Castille Road in Sunset for a short while. The mother told deputies that Fredericks texted her that he slapped the boy in the head after the boy yelled at him and hit him in the head, but that he didn t slap the boy hard enough to make him pass out. The mother says Fredericks also sent a picture of the boy to her, saying he would not allow the child s disrespectfulness to continue.
