Hours expanded for walk-in, same-day COVID-19 shots at Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center

The Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center announced new hours Thursday for walk-in, same-day COVID-19 vaccinations, extending its evening hours by 30 minutes each day starting Friday.
“With a continued increase in vaccine supply, we now have the ability to offer our community members convenient options for getting their COVID-19 shot,” said Dr. Michael Ripchinski, site director for the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center and chief clinical officer with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, lead healthcare partner for the Vaccinate Lancaster Coalition. “Individuals can now choose to either schedule their shot in advance or walk into our vaccination center on a first-come, first-served basis.”
At approximately 9 a.m. Sunday, the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center hit a new milestone in the fight to defeat COVID-19: 100,000 vaccines in arms.
The moment was marked with a lei around the neck of Keith Branch at the site of the former Bon-Ton store at Park City Center and an announcement over the public address system.
âI was just looking for royalty checks or a new car or something,â the 56-year-old Lancaster County resident said tongue-in-cheek.
Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center Co-Director Judy Brendle said cheers, applause and a few tears followed the announcement.
âItâs really a celebration that we share with our entire community,â said John Lines, a spokesman for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. Each jab puts the community âthat much closer to ending the pandemic,â he said.
17 FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – More than 300 Pennsylvania National Guard members are currently supporting COVID-19 vaccination centers across the commonwealth.
Five teams, totaling about 313 Soldiers and Airmen, are at working at community vaccinations centers in Philadelphia, Lancaster, State College and Monroeville.
“Our Guard members are committed to serving their fellow Pennsylvanians by assisting with COVID-19 vaccinations,” said Col. Frank Montgomery, director of military support for the Pa. National Guard. “We are happy to be assisting our neighbors at several sites throughout the commonwealth.”
About 190 Pa. National Guard members are supporting two vaccinations centers in Philadelphia. About 150 of them are at a vaccination center at a school in North Philadelphia, and more than 40 are at a vaccination center at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City.

Starting Wednesday, the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center at Park City Center will offer limited same-day appointments.Same-day appointment scheduling will be held at 1 p.m. daily at the center’s interior mall entrance, based on availability. Organizers expect an average of 60 to 70 doses potentially available each day.Officials said there has been a 2% cancellation or no-show rate, so same-day appointments will help ensure all doses are used.The Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center has approximately 20,000 appointments available through May 2.
