Man charged with walking into Columbia man s home, fracturing his skull

A man has been charged with walking into the home of a Columbia man and breaking his skull during an attack that left the victim hospitalized in critical condition, according to Columbia police.  Michael A. Newport, 36, who police said is homeless, walked in though the back door of the victim s home in the 600 block of Furnace Avenue around 10 a.m. Thursday, chased the man around and beat him, according to charging documents. The victim was taken to Lancaster General Hospital and admitted in critical condition with a skull fracture and brain bleeding, along with wounds to his upper back and upper left arm, according to the documents.

Coroner IDs 17-year-old girl as driver killed in Paradise Twp crash

The person killed in a Monday night crash in Paradise Township has been identified as 17-year-old Tatania Smucker of Gap, Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said Thursday. Smucker was driving a vehicle around 10 p.m. on Black Horse Road, just south of Route 30, when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The car rolled over several times and ejected both Smucker and a passenger, stopping about 50 yards from the road, police said. Smucker was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger suffered “moderate injuries” and was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, police said.

Motorcyclist seriously injured after crash in Paradise Township; Route 30 shut down

A motorcyclist was seriously injured after crashing in Paradise Township on Wednesday evening, according to a supervisor with Lancaster County-Wide Communications. The motorcycle crashed with another vehicle in the 3000 block of Lincoln Highway East (Route 30), northeast of Strasburg, at 6:51 p.m., the supervisor said. It was not clear which vehicle struck the other. The motorcyclist sustained a serious injury and was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, the supervisor said. Westbound traffic along Route 30 was shut down at Black Horse Road while eastbound traffic was shut down at Hartman Bridge Road (Route 896).

A York County man is facing charges after allegedly driving under the influence at the time of a crash that killed a horse and left a man injured. Phillip Sullivan, 18, is facing Driving Under the Influence charges for his role in the incident. On July 5 around 2:45 a.m., a horse and cart was struck in the 5700 block of Division Highway while traveling eastbound, police say. An 18-year-old Honey Brook man was ejected from the cart and transported to Lancaster General Hospital with multiple injuries.
