Two wanted for questioning in double homicide investigation

A man and a woman are dead, and Lamar County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Texas Rangers are looking for two persons of interest as part of a homicide investigation opened Monday. James Elrod III and Carolyn Elrod are named as the persons of interest. Both have outstanding warrants for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and are wanted for questioning in the homicide case, Sheriff Scott Cass said in a news release. James Henry Elrod III is described as a 44-year-old, 5-foot-6 white man weighing 150 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes. Carolyn Lynell Elrod is described as a 39-year-old, 5-foot-4 white woman weighing 146 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

(WDAM) - Everyone has seen the news and all the bad publicity surrounding encounters with law enforcement, many of those dealing with members in the community who are going through a mental health crisis. Departments across the country are now offering specialized training for many of their officers through their local Crisis Intervention Team programs. On Friday, a ceremony was held for 14 officers graduating from the CIT training program. Graduates included officers from the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and the Hattiesburg Police Department.

A visit to the recently updated communications center at the sheriff’s office revealed a room filled with computer screens, five each at two dispatch consoles and a back-up station or two for times when traffic is extra heavy.
