Women strapped woman to toilet set at South Carolina care facility, SLED says

Updated: 12:41 PM EDT May 6, 2021 Two Laurens County women were arrested after a woman they were in charge of caring for was left strapped to a toilet for nearly eight hours, according to arrest warrants. Mariquita Antionetta McGowan, 35, and Jasmine Lariane Tomika Carter, 25, were each charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult.The women were arrested Wednesday in connection with the incident that happened at Whitten Center in Clinton, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. (Video above: Morning headlines) The Whitten Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, according to its website. Both McGowan and Carter were employees of the facility and the victim was a resident, according to arrest warrants. An arrest warrant said McGowan strapped the woman to the toilet using the toilet pelvic position device at about 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 23, 20202 and never went back to check on her. Laurens woman charged after argument in truck leads to man s death, deputies say

Updated: 5:46 PM EDT Apr 20, 2021 A woman was charged after an argument in a truck led to the death of a man in Laurens County.The Laurens County Sheriff s Office said Catherine Ophelia Knight, 43, of Laurens, was charged with DUI and reckless homicide in the death of Marlon Brando Johnson, 65.Sheriff s Office spokesperson Courtney Snow said the incident happened last Thursday, April 15, on Leesville Church Road.Deputies responded to the location after a 911 call reporting that someone had been hit by a car, Snow said.Deputies found Johnson dead when they arrived, Snow said. Witnesses told deputies that Johnson and Knight were arguing in a truck before Johnson was hit.Johnson was a passenger in the truck before the incident.Knight remains at the Laurens County Detention Center, according to the website.
