CANTON â More than three months ahead of the stateâs deadline to comply with Executive Order 203, the St. Lawrence County Sheriffâs Office reform package was approved by county lawmakers in December. But constituents wanted more time to consider the measure.
Titled New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative and part of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomoâs âSay Their Nameâ police reform agenda, the June order followed the May 25 killing of 46-year-old George P. Floyd by Minneapolis police.
The sheriffâs office review culminated in a certification by the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators during a public hearing and special meeting on Dec. 21. During the YouTube Live hybrid meeting â some officials attended in person and others participated over Zoom â a move to table the vote until January failed 11-4. OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - Two people have been arrested in connection with what Ogdensburg police are calling a âgun shot investigation.â
Police responded to a fight on the 800 block of New York Avenue Sunday night.
While police were there, the department received several complaints of gun shots in the 300 or 400 blocks of Mansion Avenue.
Police investigated and said those complaints stemmed from the New York Avenue altercation.
That prompted a search at 325 Mansion Avenue and ended with the arrests of 2 people who live there, 28 year old Christian Gonzales and 29 year old Deserrea Deloney.

CANTON The St. Lawrence County Sheriff s Office recently received reports of an ongoing phone scam.
The complainants reported that they received a phone call from an unknown number and the caller claimed to be from the Publishers Clearing House.
The caller stated that the person had won the grand prize and then attempted to collect personal information from the complainant. The caller requested they send money to the PCH in order to cover fees, taxes, insurance, etc.
They may request the payment be in the form of check, money order, gift cards or another form. The amount of money won and the amount requested to be sent to the PCH may vary.

OGDENSBURG â The St. Lawrence County Deputies Association will be hosting an ice fishing derby with proceeds going to Sgt. Ryan Shelly to help in his fight against salivary gland cancer.
The derby is being held Feb. 6 from daylight until 5 p.m. All participants must be signed up by Feb 3.
The derby is open boundaries within St. Lawrence County and has a $20 entry fee. The association is urging participants to follow COVID-19 guidelines implemented by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and St. Lawrence County Public Health Department.
âA lot of people have said this is not how things are traditionally done and my response is, this isnât a traditional time and we have to make some adjustments,â County Detective Rick Engle said.
