Dr Charles Patterson selected to serve as interim president of Shippensburg University

Updated: 1:05 PM EDT April 15, 2021 SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education announced Thursday that Dr. Charles Patterson has been selected to serve as interim president of Shippensburg University. Patterson has served as president of Mansfield University since July 2019, the PASSHE said. His selection was part of a collaborative effort by the Shippensburg University Board of Trustees, State System Chancellor Dan Greenstein, and the Board of Governors.  “Dr. Patterson has built an exemplary resume of accomplishments and transparent leadership, fully understands the goals and objectives of System Redesign and how to build on the foundation laid by President Carter and he is eager to be at Shippensburg University,” said L. Michael Ross, chair of the Council of Trustees.  

Steinway Society s 17th annual awards competition held live on Zoom

Last year, midway into Steinway Society of Riverside County’s awards festival, COVID-19 forced closure of Xavier High School, where the event was being held, forcing an abrupt change from live performances to self-recorded recitals. This year, Jim McCormick, director of the awards festival program, was ready and well-adapted for a sophisticated live Zoom event that was held over two Sundays, March 7 and 14. “After some initial ‘birthing pains,’ the process of virtual connection in education via Zoom and other platforms has become almost second nature,” McCormick said. “We still encountered a few surprise kinks along the way, but, as with anything else, when you give it your attention and continue to refine it, the virtual connection works so much better than many of us would have expected.”

His debut novel, Raft of Stars, is set in the Wisconsin Northwoods and has been receiving high praise. Andrew J. Graff was standing alone in his kitchen in Ohio when The New York Times review of “Raft of Stars” unexpectedly arrived on the same morning as his book’s release.
