McFarland, 30, called the police. Once they helped her get inside the attic she rented in a Newark home, she saw that all of her possessions were gone. Her velvet black couches. According to data from the US Commerce Department, the personal savings rate jumped to 20.5% in January, up from 13.4% the month before. That s way above the 6% to 8% range it has hovered around in the past decade.
