Precipitation kept Three Rivers Fire from spreading Wednesday
As of the April 28 evening update, the Three Rivers Fire was still 12,000 acres and 5% contained. Due to cooler, wetter weather, the fire did not grow much Wednesday.
The fire started at 26 acres at 8:42 a.m. on April 26 and grew to 12,000 acres by the evening of April 27. Southwest Type 1 Team 2, led by Incident Commander Dave Bales, assumed management of the fire (Wednesday) morning, the Wednesday evening fire update states.
Fire lines were established to protect private lands that may be in the line of the fire should it grow. Sacramento and Smokey Bear Hotshot Crews worked to minimize fire growth on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, the update said. Crews also focused on scouting the most optimal locations for fire lines to protect Ski Apache and Lookout Mountain. Engine crews assessed and planned for structural protection in the Bonito Subdivision, should the fire continue to move in that direction.
