VIENTIANE, May 13 (Xinhua) The death of an elderly woman in Lao capital Vientiane after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine was unlikely related to any complications caused by the vaccine, according to the Lao Ministry of Health.
A 63-year-old woman passed all the checks including a temperature test before she was vaccinated and did not feel unwell immediately afterwards, Bandith Xomphonphakdy, a vaccine expert, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday.
The woman received the AstraZeneca vaccine. She experienced pain in her legs and other parts of her body, the day after being vaccinated, said Bandith.

VIENTIANE, May 7 (Xinhua) The Lao government urged everyone in Laos to actively get COVID-19 vaccination in order to prevent the spread of the virus. According to a report by the Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health on Friday, 309,924 people had received their first vaccination, while 78,931 people have had their second doses. The vaccination program has been expanded to cover more target groups in addition to health workers. The vaccination drive is part of COVID-19 prevention and control plans which health authorities are going all out to implement in a bid to keep the virus in check.

According to a report by the Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health on Tuesday, the Lao government agreed to extend the lockdown for 15 more days until May 20, as part of the measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Everyone should continue to follow all government measures concerning the control of the virus including those laid down by a Prime Ministerial Order and the National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, according to the report.
