Laos reports 798 road accidents with 112 killed in April - World News

According to the report issued by the Traffic Police department under Lao Ministry of Public Security, 1,309 were injured and 1,510 vehicles were damaged in road accidents across the country during April. The accidents also resulted in an estimated damage of over 11.2 billion Lao kip (some 1.1 million U.S. dollars). Most road accidents occurred because of drunk driving and excessive speed, according to the report. Enditem

Laos: Over hundred thousand people benefit from PRF-funded community development projects

VIENTIANE, May 15 (Vientiane Times/ANN): A total of 137,415 people in 232 villages of six provinces have benefitted from community sub-projects financed by the Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry this year. Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Division, Dr Hatthachan Phimphanthavong, told Vientiane Times the sub-projects were rolled out in Savannakhet, Saravan, Attapeu, Xekong, Luang Namtha and Luang Prabang provinces. In total, 236 sub-projects concerned 77 in the agriculture and forestry sector, 80 in public works and transport, five in the health sector, 58 in education and sports, and 66 involved clean water and sanitation. So far, 219 projects have been completed and 17 are still ongoing.

Lao authorities received Phavady Viphakone at the Friendship Bridge after her recovery from Covid-19 was had been completed at a hospital in Nong Khai, Thailand, according to Lao Post. Ms. Phavady and two Thai men entered Laos illegally via Savannakhet Province on 6 April, where they met with Case 59 and traveled to Vientiane, leading to a surge in Covid-19 cases across Laos. Every province in Laos has now gone into lockdown as a result of the second wave of Covid-19.
