Currently in the State Senate’s Appropriations Committee, Senate Bills 9 and 10 both would allow ministerial approvals encouraging higher-density housing that supersede local zoning regulations.
SB 9, as currently amended, allows for a split of a single-family home lot into two lots, with up to two houses on each lot. A three-member Los Altos City Council majority agreed last week to intervene in the ongoing dispute surrounding an Asian-American council member and a young Black activist. Members plan to place the issue on the agenda at the council meeting scheduled next Tuesday.
Toward the end of the council’s May 11 meeting, Councilmember Sally Meadows suggested the need “to come up with a solution for this council and the public … to get our community back together.”
Meadows told the Town Crier last week her understanding is that Mayor Neysa Fligor and Councilmember Jonathan Weinberg would work on the specifics of the discussion and agendize it for Tuesday’s meeting.
Group offers to help with council conflict
On behalf of Los Altos Community Voices, the statements of the Los Altos City Council members at the April 27 meeting convince us that it is past time for the council to accept responsibility and act with a sense of urgency to take concrete steps to resolve the divisive and untenable situation between Councilmember Lynette Lee Eng and activist Kenan Moos.
We are ready and able to assist you, as needed and desired, in developing a solution.

Following is an open letter to the Los Altos City Council.
It appears we are headed for another year of serious drought. As residents of Los Altos, we are concerned about the amount of watering still being done around town. It’s understandable that our public spaces need to be kept attractive, but we are wondering if the council could issue some guidelines now on how residents can save water by watering less and conserving in the home?
A timely reminder might prompt those still washing our cars and overwatering our lawns that all of us may need this precious resource later on this year to drink, keep us cool and fight any fires that threaten our safety.
