LOS ANGELES (AP) A judge denied a new trial for a man prosecutors called The Boy Next Door Killer, who could be sentenced to death later Friday for the home-invasion murders of two women and the attempted murder of a third.

LOS ANGELES - Michael Gargiulo, the so-called Hollywood Ripper and The Boy Next Door Killer, has been sentenced to death for killing and mutilating two Southern California women, including one who died hours before she was set to go out with actor Ashton Kutcher.
In court Friday, Gargiulo again denied involvement in the attacks. I m innocent, he said. I ve been framed by tunnel-vision
detectives.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry P. Fidler chose between a death sentence and life in prison without the possibility of parole for Gargiulo, 45, who was convicted in August 2019 of the home-invasion murders of two women and the attempted murder of a third.

Pop music star Britney Spears won court permission Wednesday to employ a lawyer of her choosing to represent her interests.
The decision came in a court hearing in Los Angeles, California.
Spears is under the care of a legal guardian agreement known, in the state of California, as a conservatorship. In some states, it is called a guardianship.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A judge today denied the defense s motion for a new trial for the so-called “Hollywood Ripper” who was convicted of killing and mutilating two Southland women and attacking a third who survived to testify against him setting the stage for the defendant s sentencing later this afternoon.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler ruled that there was sufficient evidence to support Michael Gargiulo s conviction for the Feb. 22, 2001, slaying of 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin in her Hollywood bungalow hours before she was set to go out with actor Ashton Kutcher, along with the Dec. 1, 2005, killing of Maria Bruno, a 32-year-old mother of four young children, in her El Monte apartment.

For crimes he called âvicious and frightening,â a judge gave a death sentence to a man prosecutors called âThe Boy Next Door Killerâ for the home-invasion murders of two women and the attempted murder of a third.
Victims family members wept as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry P. Fidler handed down the sentence to 45-year-old Michael Thomas Gargiulo.
âEverywhere that Mr. Gargiulo went, death and destruction followed him,â Fidler said at the all-day hearing.
